BLOG TOUR: MURDER OUT OF TUNE : A Libby Sarjeant Murder Mystery by Lesley Cookman

Synopsis
The fourteenth book in the Libby Sarjeant series of British murder mysteries which features a retired actress as the female sleuth and are based in the picturesque village of Steeple Martin.

A member of a local ukulele group is found dead in Steeple Martin's churchyard. Libby's first reaction is relief that the victim isn't anyone she knows. She and the usual suspects have other things to occupy them as they are gearing up for a Christmas concert and pantomime in the Oast Theatre but when Libby's cousin gets romantically involved with a man in whom the police are taking an interest, she can't help asking a few questions – and getting into trouble…

Review
Libby Sarjeant and her group of friends, mostly actor and theatre-types, of Steeple Martin are back. As Ben keeps reminding Libby, she is not involved when a ukelele player is found murdered in the churchyard. True to her 'nosy' nature, though, Libby and her friend Fran investigate. After all, the ukulele players have a spot in the concert in the village of Steeple Martin. Libby's interest increases when her cousin comes to visit and seems smitten with the prime suspect. There are other suspects though, and Libby has many false starts in solving the murder leading the reader astray and the story moving forward. Cookman keeps us guessing until the end.

This can be read as a stand alone. Background on Libby's friendship with the lead detective and the theatre group is sufficient. The descriptions of Steeple Martin and the surrounding small towns are well done. The small town busybody and inevitable conflicts add to the story. Having read others in the series, Libby's inquisitive and stubborn personality hasn't changed much, but Ben seems to have more tolerance!
