Blog Tour & Review: NOT IN HER WILDEST DREAMS by Dani Collins

NOT IN HER WILDEST DREAMS by Dani Collins

Series: Secret Dreams #1

Genre: Contemporary Romance
SYNOPSIS:

Small town secrets. Big time heartache.

As a teenager, Paige Fogarty crushed on Sterling Roy, but he was out of reach for a No Good Fogarty. Then, one magical night, they kissed. That’s all. Her father caught them, took a round out of Sterling, and Sterling retaliated by tagging her as the town slut. Paige rose above her reputation, got herself to school in Seattle, and is now a professional accountant. Her life would be perfect if she hadn’t been called back to Liebe Falls to save her family’s interests from those awful Roys.

Sterling was set up by Paige and her brother to take a beating from her father. He knows it, but he doesn’t hold a grudge. His exile from Liebe Falls allowed him to grow beyond his small town roots. He isn’t stuck running Roy Furnishings, the factory his mother calls his ‘legacy.’ Sterling only comes back to ensure the Fogartys don’t pull a fast one as his father buys out their share in the business.

Roy Furnishings is in trouble, though. Someone is skimming funds and Sterling is sure it’s Paige’s brother. As Sterling and Paige investigate, more than their own scandalous history comes to light. They’re trying to put their past to bed, but are liable to fall into one–together–before this is over. That’s impossible. A Fogarty end up with a Roy? Not in her wildest dreams.

REVIEW:

Feuding families and family secrets make it difficult for Paige, Sterling, and Luke, not to mention other family members. As Paige works on the audit and Sterling tries to salvage the business, a break in at the house, then Paige's car, and then the house is set on fire... the stakes have escalated and not just hearts are in danger.

The plot had some twists, lots of secrets and misunderstandings, and many questions to be answered. Indicated as "romantic comedy" there are some humorous parts, and definitely romance (and not limited to Sterling and Paige). It's well written and the characters and well-developed. If you're looking for a good romance with a mystery, and you're not offended by a few graphic sex scenes, you will enjoy this book.

Review
Annaliese is the scapegoat when a bride-to-be decides not "to-be" and out of job; Leo is out of a secretary/admin assistant and Annabelle may have some insights about that bride's family. They work well together and neither wants to risk that with the chemistry they feel.

This is the first in the series and I liked Annaliese, her independence, and her sense of right and wrong. Leo is also likable.  There are multiple, intertwined mysteries - the most notable of which is the left of hair extensions while the women are wearing them. All tied up in nicely in the end, though it's left in the air how the relationship between Annaliese and Leo will or won't progress.  A quick read - short and to the point. Best for adult readers only.

Review
A father and a son dead - natural causes and an accident? or two murders? Leo is hired by the remaining son, Laird. Laird is sure to be the prime suspect and as the police further investigate the death of the father and now the death of Laird's brother, the evidence mounts. Could Laird be guilty? or is it just coincidence after all?

As with the first in the series, Leo and Annaliese make a great team and he relies on her judgment and intuition. This is also a short, quick read. Having read Books 1 and 2 in the same night, the pace is right and the characters enjoyable. The chemistry between them burns up a few pages, so beware!  Now on to Books 3, 4, and 5.

AUTHOR BIO
Hello. I grew up in England, and worked a lot of my early life in the corporate world of banking and local government. I love the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich and I always knew I’d rather be writing for a living than commuting to London every day. I never dreamed it would happen, but after spending some time in Florida, I returned to the UK and now I just love writing light-hearted, steamy romantic stories with a dose of humor.

You can usually find me at my home looking out over the beautiful countryside, drinking tea (and the occasional glass of wine!) while my hubby and I dream up the next story!

Spotlight: SATURDAY IN SERENDIPITY by Margo Hoornstra

A twenty year high school reunion changes the lives of former classmates and leads to unexpected futures.

Three Strikes Thursday
Barry Carlson, a pro baseball success, could have any woman he wanted. Except one. Twenty years before, Barry won Amanda Marsh’s love, only to crush her heart. He’s returned to Serendipity, determined to win her back. Recently divorced, Amanda is happy—until Barry slides back into her life. Can they put aside old wounds and new misunderstandings to find a forever love?

Two On Tuesday
Blane Weston’s construction company needs the venture capital Matt Durand has. With his reputation for hostile takeovers, she wants no part of him. Mixing business with pleasure, she’s off to Serendipity to hook up with a former flame. Not used to being denied, Matt follows. How can Blane enjoy a journey to her past when Matt is determined to dictate her future?

One Fateful Friday
His high school reunion in Serendipity over, hospital CEO Jake Holbrook regrets his single state. When a special woman from his past tumbles back into his life—and his bed—he’s determined to keep her there. Family practitioner Bethany Thomas avoids an entanglement with her new boss, but unknowingly betrays him. As the holidays approach, can they overcome a lack of trust to find their Christmas miracle?

About Margo Hoornstra
Like many writers, it’s hard to determine exactly when my fiction writing career began. I remember composing a short story in grade school (I have no idea about what) which was chosen for publication in an all school anthology. A journalism class taken in junior high school led to a job on the school newspaper and a weekly column.

I always loved reading. I loved writing too. Someday, I thought, maybe when I grew up and received the right training, I could actually write a book. After all, I was often told, laughingly most times, I had an extremely vivid imagination.

Through the years, the desire to write was always there. I had so many ideas and characters roaming around in my head, so many stories. But the business of living—going to college, getting married then raising a family—took precedence over something as frivolous as writing a book.

Then one day out of the blue I was downsized—effective immediately—from a job I’d held for over thirty years. What seemed so unfair at the time, I now recognize the tremendous gift I was given that day. As I’m now able to spend more and more time doing what I love—writing romantic fiction—I find I really do have an abundance of stories to share.

Excerpt from Three Strikes Thursday
The solution was simple. Get out of the car, walk up to the house and ring the bell. Apologize for the intrusion when her father came to the door, and ask to see Amanda.

Only for a couple of minutes. Please.

Then he could fall all over himself telling her how sorry he was.

“Yeah that’s gonna fly.” His whisper filled the emptiness around him, and he dropped his head. “Face it, asshole. You blew it.”

In an odd way, talking to himself, he didn’t feel quite so alone.

He turned his gaze back to stare at Amanda’s window. The shade was still down. Her light was out.

So that was it.

Moving like a rigid, soulless robot, Barry put the car in gear and drove slowly away. Picking up speed as he left Amanda’s subdivision, he floored it once he hit the highway. With the windows down, the warm night air cooled as it roared around him.

He flicked the headlights on high. Their beams lit up the trees, telephone poles and bushes as they whizzed by. Nothing could stop him as long as he kept his foot down hard on the gas pedal. Then something did.

Pulling to one side of the deserted road, he jammed the gear shift into park, jumped out, ran around to the back bumper, bent over.

And puked his guts out onto the warm asphalt.

iRead Book Tours Blog Tour : THE PUBLICIST ONE AND TWO by Christina George

Synopsis: The Publicist Book One
Behind every book, there’s always more to the story.

Can one woman change an age-old institution like publishing? Probably not, but Kate Mitchell sure wants to try. As a publicist with a large, respected New York publishing house, Kate finds herself at the mercy of a broken publishing system, books that don’t always sell (at all) and author egos that are often, well, as big as the island of Manhattan.

Enter the star Editor, MacDermott Ellis. Tall, handsome, charismatic, married, and ready to save the day. Kate wants to do the right thing but her hormones seem to be driving her decisions. Then there’s Allan Lavigne, once a revered author, now as forgotten as yesterday’s news; and his nephew Nick, who wants to sweep Kate away from New York for another coast, California.

As Kate tries to navigate the landmine of publicity, the over-the-top author expectations, and the careful dance of “I’m sorry, your book isn't on the bestseller list this week”, she also finds authors who are painfully overlooked by a publisher wanting more sex, more celebrities, and more scandal.

Review:
This is a well-written story with many personalities and, perhaps, more than a grain of truth.  Certainly, in any business, there is the push for profit and sometimes that road isn't the prettiest. Most people have had to deal with the egos and idiosyncrasies of individuals who think a lot of themselves - sometimes with humorous outcomes, sometimes less humorous.  That said, the Publicist Book 1 probably provides a glimpse of the day to day ups and downs of those behind the scenes.  Add to that the relationship between Mac and Kate, and then between Kate and Nick.  A bit steamy at times ...  The most memorable character, however, is Allan Lavigne - the elderly gentleman who wrote a bestseller many years ago and still has a contract with the publishing firm for a second.  Kate brings him food, helps to clean his apartment, and is his friend - probably his only friend.  I have to say Allan was my favorite!  The Publicist ends with a lot of balls up in the air... so on to Shelf Life: The Publicist Book Two.

Synopsis:  Shelf Life: The Publicist Book Two
The story only an insider could tell.

Publishing: An industry of out-of-control of egos, unrealistic expectations, and books with the shelf life of milk.

This is Kate’s world, but for how long?

When one of Kate Mitchell’s star authors is carted away in handcuffs, she thinks it’s only the beginning of her troubles. As her world crumbles around her, Kate desperately looks for anyone to hold onto but finds that happy endings are truly works of fiction. When her career and love affair hit their expiration date, Kate sets off on a new adventure…

Starting over in California is easy, but Kate soon learns that leaving her old life behind isn't. Nicholas Lavigne is eager to help her forget, but two things still own her heart, the dream of discovering the next great American novel, and MacDermott Ellis.

As Kate tries to rebuild her life she finds a surprising gift that reboots her career in a new and unexpected direction. Suddenly her name becomes synonymous with one of the biggest bestsellers publishing has seen in ages and she’s welcomed back with open arms. At the height of her success the ghosts of her past come back to remind her of the world she’d been trying to forget and the man who never let go of her heart.

Review:
Shelf Life begins about where The Publicist ends.  Kate continues to go back and forth on whether she can move in the same direction as the company.  She leaves the company and Mac and heads for California. Needless to say, the publishing world (and Mac) still have heart.  As with The Publicist, Shelf Life is well-written and includes a variety of characters and scenarios.

I read both books together and I would recommend others do the same as the story continues from one book to the other much as chapters do. Without reading The Publicist, I think a reader would be missing much.

Meet the Author:

Christina George has worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn't. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, cause it’s more fun to guess, right? George continues to work in publicity and helps authors because at the end of the day she does love books, she loves publishing, and she loves authors. She hopes you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as she enjoyed creating it.
